Betty C. Gibson

April 6, 2022

Betty J. (Cassanelli) Gibson, 89, of Stafford Springs, CT passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 surrounded by her two children. She was born on November 2, 1932 in Springfield, MA, daughter of the late Ernesto and Vittoria (Mezzetti) Cassanelli. Betty lived in the Springfield area prior to moving to Stafford Springs to reside with her daughter in 2012. For 52 years, she was the loving wife of George Norman Gibson who passed away in 2017. She enjoyed being a district chief clerk at the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company, and then focused full time on raising her children. When her children were older, Betty helped her brother and nephew in their business, and then worked at the Book Rack which matched her love of reading. Betty is survived by her son, David Gibson and his fiancé, Kerry, of Loudon, NH; her granddaughters Amy, Emily, Meaghan, Sarah, and their spouses. Betty also leaves her daughter, Heather Curnan and her husband, Tim, of Stafford Springs, CT; her grandsons, Dominic and Ian; and her grand-pup, Lucy. She was predeceased by her siblings, Henry, Ernie, Albert, Irene (Grimaldi), and their spouses. She leaves her sister-in-law, Darlene Starosielski and husband, Paul; many loved nieces and nephews; and her dear friend of 70 years, Claire Blanchard. Betty was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and aunt who was fiercely protective of her family. She loved to laugh and kept a positive attitude amidst any obstacle. She believed her doctors at River Bend, along with a positive attitude and loving family, were the key to her longevity. She enjoyed good food and often told her daughter, “I never knew how good it would be for me that you married Tim. He’s a good cooker”. Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family. Seeing her grandsons every day was a blessing for her and them. Our memories of Betty will live on forever in all who knew and loved her. Interment in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Springfield, MA, will take place privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children of New England, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104. Shriners was special to Betty and Norm. Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., Stafford Springs, CT has care of the arrangements. To leave a message of sympathy for her family, please visit: www.introvignefuneralhome.com
