When I first heard that Kirby had died, I’d posted a tribute on legacy.com, never thinking that his family wouldn’t see it. I’m sorry! I wanted you to know how much Kirby meant to me.
Back in the fall of 1967, Kirby was my supervising teacher when I practice taught at LHS. He was brilliant, kind, funny, and humble. He was a wonderful role model as a teacher, one who could truly be himself, not a tin god, and yet command respect and interest from his students. While never disrespecting his students, he could discipline them when necessary. I learned so much!
In the years after, whenever I saw Kirby at faculty gatherings, retirement parties, or more recently at R.A.T.S., a morning coffee hour for retirees, we greeted each other warmly and always enjoyed our conversations. I’ve missed his presence there since he quit driving. He was such a delightful man, who lived a very full life.
Peace and beauty is what I felt when visiting Kirby's family farm. Peace Be With You All.
Kirby was our neighbor, and it was always a joy to see him outside working on his farm and he came and asked Jake for help to fix his tractor, he always had good things to say, we also enjoyed talking with him at Diana's restaurant with his brother Ted. Wonderful man, he was ,he will be missed, Jake & Kathy Jacobsen
Kirby was an amazing person and such a honor to have known him, I so enjoyed spending hours trimming blueberry bushes and helping him with weeding, and gardening. Both him and Jo were truly great great people , and inspiring to all. He will be greatly missed.
