Margaret “Peggy” (Ponta) Mandak, 90, of Willington, CT, beloved wife of the late Stephen Mandak, passed away in the loving arms of her family on Friday, January 24, 2020. She was born in New York City, NY, daughter of the late Joseph and Josephine (Durkin) Ponta. Peggy worked at Old Sturbridge Village for over 25 years, where she was referred to as the mascot. She was a highly educated woman, who was the consummate New Yorker. Peggy was a great cook and baker, who enjoyed reading and puzzles in her spare time. A loving mother and grandmother, Peggy is survived by her five children, Lark C. Mandak, Dawn R. Mandak, Gale Lynn Mandak, Wayne Stephen Mandak and his wife Dondra, and Bridgette Mandak-Doty and her husband Les; grandchildren, Athena, Selena, Autumn, Tannar, Devin, Spencer, Saryn, and Mackenzie; great grandsons, Chase and Caden; and several nieces and nephews. A calling hour will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2020 from 11 A.M. – 12 P.M., with a memorial service to take place at 12 P.M., at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial will be held privately. Memorial donations may be made to the Mandak Homestead Preservation Project, c/o Gale Mandak, 93 Cemetery Rd., Willington, CT 06279.
