Our story

The Introvigne family has been in the funeral industry for over fifty years, providing meaningful services to the families we serve, all with a personal touch.  The building that houses the funeral home was originally built in the 1880's as a residence for William H. Smith, a local mill owner.  It was next occupied by Robert W. Smith, son of William H.  The funeral business at our current location dates back to 1938 when Richard Y. Browne converted the building into a funeral home after J. Francis Browne & Sons of Thompsonville purchased the home from the estate of Robert W. Smith.  It was known then as the Browne Funeral Home.  Years later, Mr. Browne sold the business to Richard E. Stevens and Henry J. Plante, and it was renamed Stevens-Plante Funeral Home.  It was then the first Introvigne began to become involved with the funeral business.

Mr. Stevens approached Joseph A. Introvigne to see if he was interested in operating the Countryside Furniture Co., which was located on the funeral home's property, but only if he would help out with the funeral home as well.  Joe agreed to the proposition, and began managing the renamed Introvigne's Furniture Mart and also working at the funeral home. Shortly after this, Mr. Stevens sold Henry J. Plante his interest in the funeral home, and it was renamed the Henry J. Plante Funeral Home.  In the 1960s, Mr. Plante approached Joe to see if he wanted to become a partner in the funeral home.  Joe agreed to this also, and became the first Introvigne funeral director.  At that time the funeral home was renamed the Introvigne-Plante Funeral Home.

In 1974, Joe's son, Joseph R. Introvigne, joined the funeral business and graduated from the New England Institute of Anatomy, Embalming, and Sanitary Science to become a funeral director.  In 1980, Mr. Plante sold his share of the business to Joseph A., and the Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc. came to be.  The business has remained in the family ever since.  Sadly in October of 2000, Joseph A. passed away.  Joseph R. then purchased the business, and made significant changes to the facility beginning with a completely new chapel added to the rear of the building in 2002, and an expanded parking area in 2006.

In 2003, Joseph R. Introvigne, Jr. graduated from Briarwood College with a Mortuary Science degree to become a third-generation funeral director after graduating from Assumption College with a bachelor's degree in Accounting in 2002.  In 2012, Michael J. Introvigne joined Joe, Jr. as a third-generation funeral director.  Michael graduated from Western New England College with a bachelor's degree in Business Management in 2010 and from Lincoln College of New England in 2011 with a degree in Mortuary Science. Joe, Joe, Jr., and Michael strive to carry out their family legacy of providing families with the best possible service and also provide their loved ones with meaningful services that will honor them with dignity and respect.
