Albert R. Saunders' Obituary
Albert R. Saunders, 87, of Stafford Springs, CT, beloved husband of Terrie (Beaudry) Saunders, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 14, 1929 in East Providence, RI, son of the late Charles and Florence (Wiggley) Saunders. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and owned his own carpet business in Stafford Springs for many years. He also installed carpet for Introvigne’s Furniture Mart for over 50 years. He was an avid race car fan, loved fishing and clamming at Point Judith in Rhode Island, and was an avid gardener. He will be remembered for his unique sense of humor. Besides his loving wife Terrie, he is survived by his children, Elizabeth Coyne and her husband Donald of Amston, CT, Joan Soucier and her husband Allyn of Canterbury, CT, and Kathleen Smith and her husband John of Westerly, RI; daughter-in-law, Peggy Saunders of Stafford Springs, CT; brother, Hank Saunders and his wife Kris of East Greenwich, RI; step children, Debbie (DaDalt) Messeck Wilson of Stafford Springs, CT, David Messeck of Orlando, FL, Debbie Galotto and her husband Tom of Stafford Springs, CT, Gene Messeck and his wife Nancy of Union, CT, Kathi Messeck of Stafford Springs, CT, Michael Messeck and his wife Cindy of Kansas; and numerous beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Clifford Saunders; stepson, Danny Messeck; step daughter, Wendy Hower; grandson, Stephen Galotto; and brothers, George and Charles Saunders. A celebration of Al’s life will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2017 at 1 P.M. at 22 Quinn St., Stafford Springs, CT. Interment will be held privately at a later date. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Johnson Memorial Hospital for the great care over the years, and to the local emergency medical teams in Stafford. Terrie would like to extend special thanks to Al’s doctors for their extra care and kindness he has been given through the years, Dr. Arthur Skalski, Dr. Lawrence Glaubiger, and Dr. Jeffrey Thompson.
