Andrew Mihaliak,'s Obituary
Andrew William Mihaliak, Sr., 88, formerly of Willington, CT died Tuesday August 22, 2006 at Rockville General Hospital, Rockville, CT with his family at his side. He was born in Bitumen, PA the son of the late Andrew Albert and Mary E. (Malinak) Mihaliak. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving with the 7th Div. in Okinawa and Saipan, and he received two Purple Hearts with Oak Leaf Cluster and other medals. He was an amateur boxer and boxed in many semi-pro matches before the war. During World War II while in the Army, he boxed with a professional boxer to an even draw attended by 4,000 soldiers. Before entering the Army he was employed at Colt Firearms, and after the war was employed at Hill Top Farm in Willington for 22 years as a meat manager. He later retired from the University of Connecticut after 13 years as a maintenance man. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and Red Sox games. Andy was a wonderful husband, father, and brother and always gave of himself. He will be missed by many. He was a member of St. Edward Parish, and the Purple Heart Club, Enfield, CT. Andrew is survived by his loving wife of 58 years of marriage, Stephanie (Yankowski) Mihaliak of Tolland, CT; 2 sons and daughters-in-law Robert A. and Maria Mihaliak, Andrew W. Jr. and Christine Mihaliak all of Union, CT; a daughter and son-in-law Mary J. and Walter Palmer of Ellington, CT; 5 grandchildren; 2 brothers John Mihaliak and William Mihaliak both of Willington, CT; 6 sisters Mary Wojtowicz of Middletown, CT, Rose Pavuk of Webster, MA, Ann Favreau of Auburn, MA, Margaret Harrison of Willington, CT, Veronica Tremko of Stafford Springs, CT, and Mildred Wajdula of Springfield, MA; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Joseph Mihaliak, a sister Helen Bushey, and a nephew Bradley Bushey. A funeral will be held on Friday August 25, 2006 with a procession forming at 9 A.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main Street, Stafford Springs, CT followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at St. Edward Church, High Street, Stafford Springs, CT. Burial will follow in St. Edward Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT. Calling hours are Thursday from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
