Arthur N. Weirs' Obituary
Arthur Nelson Weirs, 80, of Stafford Springs, CT passed away after a short illness on January 13, 2017. He was born on January 4, 1937, in Stafford Springs, CT, the youngest child of Walter and Violet (Fleming) Weirs. He was predeceased by his parents, and siblings, Muriel, Walter, Jr., Kenneth, and Marjorie, and his only son, Scott. He leaves behind his daughters and their husbands, Joan and Larry Mitta, Kimberley and Bruce Giard, and Sherry and Sandor Major; four grandchildren, Joshua Weirs and Joseph, James, and Nichole Major; a daughter-in law, Amy Weirs Smith; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and very dear family friends Duane, Laurie and Sarah Pray, and buddies Robin and Kenny. Art worked for most of his life as an auto mechanic often helping out family and friends with their car troubles. He enjoyed working in weekend gem shows for several years after and during the time he worked for Raytech Industries with friends he made in the wholesale business. Art also enjoyed all kinds of yard work - even raking leaves and helping to build stone walls. He enjoyed long dinners out and contributing to the state's general fund via lottery tickets. He was always quiet by nature but a steady and reassuring presence. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation staff for their kindness and compassion in caring for Art. His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 11 A.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial will follow in St. Edward Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT. Calling hours are on Monday from 4-6 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations in Art’s memory be made to the Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 100 Warren Circle, Storrs, CT 06268, or that a tree is planted where it will be appreciated by the planter, thus honoring Art's love of trees.
