Barbara Fontanella's Obituary
Barbara (Rounds) Fontanella, 78, born and raised in Stafford Springs, CT, passed away on March 10, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family. Barbara was the daughter of the late Henry Rounds and Katherine (Andrelski) Rounds. She graduated from Stafford High School where she enjoyed performing in school musicals. She married her classmate David Fontanella and became an active Army wife. They were stationed in Germany and also lived in Michigan and Charlottesville, VA before settling in the Washington DC area. A long-time resident of Alexandria, VA, Barbara worked for many years beginning as an assistant bank teller for Washington and Lee Bank and climbed to the position of Branch Bank Manager for Perpetual Bank. After retiring in the late eighties, she began working as an after-school teacher at St. Louis Catholic School where she remained devoted to the children in her care until shortly before her death. She is survived by her three children, Susanne Yurchik of St. Leonard, MD, Alan Fontanella of Minneapolis, MN, and Johanne Ash of Wilmington, NC. She is also survived by her sister Eleanor Phelps of Vernon, CT; five grandchildren, Matt Yurchik, Nick and Nina Fontanella, and Autumn and Adam Ash; and her nieces and nephew, Lynn Phelps and John Phelps of Vernon, CT, Lisa Phelps of Maine, and Laurie Bucolo of Florida. Visitation will be held at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, March 13, 2014. Burial will be held privately in St. Edward Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
