As a neighbor and friend I only got to know Barbara these past couple of years.
Her friendliness was contagious. she loved her kids, nature, chocolates and cookies. I was about to send flowers and thought maybe I would just go down the street and throw some birds seed on her front lawn. I think she would appreciate that. It's been our pleasure and good fortune to have Barbara as our next door neighbor. I will miss talking to her on the porch, her phone calls to check on us, and sharing news and stories about our families. She was a great lady and a good friend to us. It's strange to think about living here without her.
Ann and Jim, my thoughts and prayers are for you with the loss of your Mom. My favorite memories with Barbara are the times we shared down at the Coast Guard Academy, usually watching our boys play football. We did get to go to lunch a few times over the years while I still lived in the area and I always enjoyed our visits. Barbara was a lovely lady, always so pretty and smiling. She will be dearly missed by you both, but remembering the happy times with Mom are comforting. She is at peace and happy now and would want the same for her children.
Being friends with both Ann and Jim, I was in Barbara's home constantly during my high school years. She cared for me as if I were her own child. I distinctly remember Barbara's joy for living, her quick smile, and her selfless concern for others. I always looked forward to seeing her. Wonderful human being who made a big impression on me.

So much time to reflect this week on my life with my Mom...so many things to be thankful for ...it is amazing how one person can have such a positive impact on you....it is amazing how one person can be such a very big part of your life and such a bright star....I am looking forward to seeing you tomorrow Mom...to sit and talk and just be with you...
When I was in NY this month and while you were in your new and temporary home at the assisted living facility, I cleaned up your home to get it ready for you to come back to. We were to stay in it for a short time and then go on to Maine. I was excited for you to see it all clean and neat. It was a labor of love and I did it because I love you and your home. I took these pictures to show you how lovely it looked but never got to show you.
Now at our home in Maine, we have flowers for you and your pictures all over the dining room and living room. We think of you so fondly and in the sorrow, hope that we will find peace in knowing you are in good hands...but for now we miss you so very very much.

Mom loved her home in NY...she lived in a beautiful, comfortable and homey place on a lot that was full of nature. Mom welcomed us and our doggies with each visit..it was truly "home" to us. It was very difficult for her to imagine leaving this secure home, full of so many memories and it will be heartbreaking for me as well..we will be visiting your home in a few days Mom and I know you will be there welcoming us at the door...
The only hard part of going to see you was having to leave and over the past few years it was even more painful because I was worried about you. I am thankful that now you are in God's hands and safe and you are at peace. Your home thanks you for taking such good care of it and your spirit will remain, making your home a lovely place for the next family who is able to enjoy all it has to offer.
Mom was irritated with this little guy because he dug holes in her yard. But she really did love him and all his bigger friends!
Mom loved Maine and my Gram gave our family a very special cottage in Bayside. My Gram's love for her cottage lives on in me, who is so proud of this little home by the bay.
Mom had many special times in Maine with us.
