Celia Fadel's Obituary
Celia Fadel, 101, of Stafford Springs, CT, daughter of the late John and Augusta (Segat) DeNadai, passed away on February 19, 2009 at Evergreen Health Care Center, Stafford Springs, CT. She was born in Vittorio Veneto, Italy, on September 1, 1907 and came to the United States in 1922. Celia was employed by the former Warren Woolen Company of Stafford and worked in New York City in the early 1930s where she met her future husband Peter. Celia and Peter were married on April 24, 1933, and settled in Elmsford, New York, where Peter had a cement block business. Celia was a homemaker, raising their three children. After her husband's death in 1962, she worked for Alexander's Department Store in White Plains, New York. She moved back to Stafford Springs in 1974. After her retirement, Celia traveled with her sister Catherine on several trips to Italy, Austria, Israel, Switzerland, and to places in the United States. She was known for her long daily walks to the library where she checked out biographies. She visited her children often and attended all of her grandchildren's special events, from baptisms to college graduations and weddings. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the recipients of the many afghans she crocheted. Celia always said she had a good life and many people drew inspiration from her. She was also a member of St. Edward Parish and the Stafford Senior Center. Celia is survived by two children, Donald Fadel and his wife Laura-Ann of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Nancy Whitman and her husband Stephen of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania; daughter-in-law, Maureen Fadel of Burke, Virginia; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren. Relatives in Stafford Springs include her sister, Gina Scussel; her nieces, Adreana Scussel, Janet Scussel, Beverly DeSantis, and her great-niece Linda DeSantis. She was predeceased by a son, Richard Fadel; her brother, Peter; and a sister, Catherine DeNadai. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, with a procession forming by 10 A.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. at St. Edward Church, High St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial will follow in St. Edward Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT. Calling hours are on Tuesday from 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
