Charles E. Benjamin's Obituary
Charles E. Benjamin, 83, of Kenny Lake, Alaska, and formerly from Willington, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at 5:57 P.M. at the Alaska Regional Memorial Hospital in Anchorage, AK with his son by his side. Charlie was the son of the late Albert and Maggie Cushman Benjamin. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Metsack of Ashford, CT; his brother Albert Benjamin of Willington, CT; his daughter, Ida E. Ghramm of Dufur, OR; his son Everett C. Benjamin of Tacoma, WA; and five grandchildren: Ashli N. Roller of Puyallup, WA; Samantha L. Ghramm of Dufur, OR; Mariah L. Benjamin of Tacoma, WA; Mikhail C. Benjamin and Everett R. Benjamin of Salem, OR; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a vast number of friends. Charlie was a graduate of Windham High School, Class of 1950. Following his service in the United State Marine Corps, he worked for the W.C. Ruby Lumber Company in West Willington, CT. In 1960, Charlie followed his lifelong dream of homesteading in Alaska and ventured to Alaska. He first worked for the Morse family formerly of Storrs, CT on their fishing boat in Homer, AK. Charlie also worked for the Hamilton Dairy Farm in Palmer, AK before he finally located the homestead he desired and applied and proved up on his homestead. He was granted 160 acres in the Copper River Meridian at Mile 6, New Edgerton Hwy. in Kenny Lake, AK. Charlie was very much loved and respected by the people in the Copper River Basin. His encyclopedia type depth of knowledge on farming and other subjects will be greatly missed.
