Charlotte Lawton's Obituary
Charlotte Evans Lawton passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Johnson Memorial Hospital, Stafford Springs, CT. She celebrated her 97th birthday on November 4, 2007, at the home of her beloved and devoted daughter Lucinda (Cindy) Lawton Minich and her husband Douglas. Surrounded by her family of grandchildren Brian Lawton Minich and his wife Bethany (Pierson) and their daughter Madeline Elizabeth of Salem, MA and Kevin Jackson Minich and his wife Caroline (Foote) and daughter Caroline Jeanette and son Alexander Douglas of South Windsor, CT and special nephew Dr. Bruce E. Burnham and his wife Debi of East Windsor Hill, CT the day was a lively celebration by all. Charlotte enjoyed herself to the fullest. She was born in Rome, NY, on November 2, 1910, the daughter of the late William H. and Mabel Harrington Evans. Graduate of Rome Free Academy in 1929, she also attended Keuka College and Utica School of Commerce. On July 1, 1939, she married Henry Hughes Lawton in Sage Chapel at Cornell University. He died September 20, 1987. During World War II, Mrs. Lawton was active in the Red Cross Motor Corp and Gray Lady Volunteer Work at the Rome Memorial Hospital which she continued for many years. As a life-long Roman, she was a member of The First Presbyterian Church, Rome Art and Community Center, Rome Historical Society, Ava Dorfman Center, Lake Delta Yacht Club, Holly Twig, The Jervis Library Association and served as member and president of the Board of Trustees of the old Murphy Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Lawton was predeceased by a brother, William Harold Evans, and a sister, Gladys Evans Burnham. Charlotte is also survived by a special niece Beverly Hannett-Price of Bloomfield Hills, MI. Her funeral will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2007 at 2 P.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Lee, NY, will be at the convenience of the family. A calling hour will be held on Saturday from 1-2 P.M. at the funeral home prior to the service.
