Christian C. Christensen, Jr., 84, formerly of Stafford Springs, CT and Vernon, CT, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Marliere Hospice Care Center in New Port Richey, FL with his family by his side. Born May 22, 1925 in Stafford Springs, CT, he was the son of the late Christian Christensen, Sr. and the late Irene Brodeur Christensen. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II and participated in action against the enemy at Okinawa, Japan in May and June of 1945. After being honorably discharged in 1946, he was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Corp of East Hartford. He retired in January, 1989 after 42 years as an engine testing operator. After his retirement, he and his wife Beverly moved to the warmer climate of Port Richey, Florida. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW organizations. In his early retirement years, he enjoyed playing golf and traveling with his wife. He enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams - the Red Sox, the Rays, and UCONN basketball. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing. Chris was a devoted and loving father and grandfather who enjoyed being with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Beverly Hatt Christensen; seven children, Sheryl Champagne and her husband Roy of Glastonbury, CT, Dawn Thibodeau and her husband Dan of South Windsor, CT, Christal Pease and her husband Michael of Vernon, CT, April Tracy of Vernon, CT, Douglas Christensen and his wife RuthAnn of St. Petersburg, FL, Timothy Christensen and his wife Cheryl of Vernon, CT, and Janice Niemczyk and her husband Rich of Vernon. He leaves his sister, Lorraine Kology and her husband Chester of Stafford Springs, CT; his brother, Bill and his wife Louise of Enfield, CT; his sisters-in law, Julia Fox of Middleton, MA, Marjorie Anderson of Millbury, MA, Edie Vail and husband Jim of Stafford Springs, CT; and his brother-in-law, Charles Hatt and his wife Diane of East Brookfield, MA. He also leaves 23 grandchildren, Thomas, Daniel and William Hall, Laura Carroll, Amy Aspinwall, Shannon, Daniel and Casey Thibodeau, Michael Pease, Jr., Jonathan Pease and his wife Ladonna, Amber Bouley, Kristyn Delloiacono and her husband Dean, Heidi and Ryan Tracy, Rylan and Risa Anderson, Timothy Jr. and Jamie Christensen, Amanda, Joshua, Brittany, Zachary and Jacob Niemczyk; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He leaves in Florida Paul Summerfield, Scott, Terri, Marissa and Morgan Heiler who also held a special place in his heart. He was predeceased by a sister, Arlene Louise Christensen. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the devoted staff of the Marliere Hospice Care Center for the excellent care Dad and all of us received during his stay at the center. We would like to thank Dr. John, the "A" Wing nurses with special thanks to Laura, Jennifer, Jean, Joan, Debbie, Beverly, Bruce, Mark and John. His funeral service will be held on Friday, June 26, at 10 A.M. at the Grace Episcopal Church, Spring St., Stafford Springs, CT.
