I'm sorry that things are the way they are these days - with my health track record I avoid large gatherings. I would have enjoyed the many conversations I know took place about your dad & father-in-law
Dan, simply put, exemplified the concept of a truly good person. I first met him when my parents took over the store on 74 after the Smiths and Ray Squires retired and moved on. He and my dad were good friends and he was probably the instigator of my dad's involvement in WHFD. If you remember, one of the original sirens for the department was located behind the store.
He will be remembered with extreme fondness. Claire (to me Mrs Avery) was one of my substitute teachers during my stint at HMS. Both were simply good people. Both will remain near and dear in our hearts and I hope knowing that brings some comfort to you all.

Dan was a friend, as he was to many. I met him back in the '70s, and found him to be a gentleman, kind and a friend to all. I was lucky enough to fall into that category. Although I've not seen him in years, I never forgot his patience, kindness, and dedication to the UConn Agricultural program, and to the Tolland Fire Department. He was a good man, and a credit to humanity.
My condolences to his family, and those who loved him.

We are so very sorry for your loss. Our deepest sympathy and prayers are with you all at this heart breaking time.
Love,
Roger & Marlene Wilson and Family
To the Avery’s, my deepest sympathy and prayers to you all at Dan’s passing. I am heartbroken but I know Dan is with his beloved Claire again.
I will miss phone chats with Dan across the miles, I can hear his voice and laughter still. The many years across the road from Dan and Claire in our Sebastian park, spending time with him and you all in the house on Phyllis,
along with endless patio parties, hold precious memories that go on and on. When we visited Willington on our eastern trip, Howard and I felt your family treated us like royalty. Dan and Claire were very special people and they raised a special family.
Whispering Palms won’t be the same without Dan in it, and I will forever miss our last planned-on Red Lobster dinner date.
Wishing strength for your family and sending my love and hugs, Marilynne
I cant even begin to share a memory because there so so many. Even before I got to UCONN I had met Dan and his wonderful family at the fairs..Woodstock was one of our favorites. From there it was BIGE, Freyburg, Harrisburg, sales in Virginia, Florida keys, Jolly Roger, Marathon, my wedding, Vances Birthday Party, the list goes on and on. Dan was such a big part of my life since I was 14 years old. There are only a few people in life that YOUR life gets better every time your with them and Dan was that person for me. Even though he played a few tricks on me while at UCONN ...he also made it super fun!! He just made you feel like he cared about you, that you were special. I guess I could and will talk about the many many years I got to share with Dan Avery and his wife Claire and their wonderful family. I will forver miss him.
