Duane A. Beffa-Negrini's Obituary
Duane A. Beffa-Negrini, 73, devoted husband, son, brother, cousin, uncle, brother-in-law, and cherished friend to many in the community, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes on June 30, 2025. He was born in Stafford Springs, Connecticut on February 13, 1952, and graduated from Stafford High School in 1970. Duane attended both Western Connecticut and Eastern Connecticut State Colleges, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology/Human Services. He went on to serve in various roles for the State of Connecticut, retiring in 2015 after a career in the Judicial Branch.
Duane discovered a passion for long-distance running early in life and set school records in high school. He was the first Stafford runner to cross the finish line during the town’s 250th anniversary celebration race in 1969, placing fifth overall. His love for running continued for more than four decades, as he competed in races throughout New England — including the Manchester Road Race, numerous 5Ks, 10Ks, half-marathons, and the Boston Marathon. He also took part in the Mt. Tom Trail Race and completed the grueling Mount Washington Road Race twice, finishing high in his age group.
His deep love for his hometown and its history led him to serve as president of the Stafford Historical Society for several years. As town historian, he notably presented on the once-thriving dairy farms of Stafford.
Duane shared his life with his beloved wife Suzanne, and together they created their own Shangri-La — complete with a small vineyard, orchard, expansive vegetable and flower gardens, and winding walking trails. He was a man of many interests: collecting, hunting, fishing, maple sugaring, salami-making, winemaking, restoring antique cars and tractors, and sharing meals and laughter with loved ones. More recently, he embraced yoga and returned to cycling. Duane was known for his quick wit, mischievous sense of humor, and love of storytelling. He had a rare gift for connecting with people — genuine, gentle, and always true to himself. Those who knew him were touched by his warmth and presence. His light shone brightly in the lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed.
He was predeceased by his mother, Dolores Beffa-Negrini. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Connah; his father and stepmother, Dante and Shirley Beffa-Negrini; and his brother David and sister-in-law Patricia Beffa-Negrini.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025 from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M., with a prayer service to take place at 3:00 P.M., at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT. Afterwards, all are welcome to honor his life at Basil's Restaurant in Stafford Springs, CT. Burial in St. Edward Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT, will be held privately.
