To Edward's sister:
I am so sorry for your loss. I have been hospitalized a great deal over the past few months and I did not know of your brother's passing until I just spoke with you, on the telephone. I apologize, for having to hang-up: I was simply overcome with shock and grief at your unhappy news. Forgive me.
Ed was a good and kind and decent man and a thoughtful student of local history. He has been my friend for a very long time. The world is a lesser place without him and even Heaven, itself, is improved by his presence, there.
I will think of your brother often and foremost among my thoughts will repeatedly be Ed's gentle humor and his kindness and courtesy to all with whom he came into contact. The world could use a lot more people like Ed Festi. None of us is without faults and Ed was always aware of his own and willing to admit to them. That fact, alone, made him a special man, indeed.
Again, I am so very sorry, for your loss.
Most Sincerely,
Joe Russell
