Edwina Jill Mordasky's Obituary
Edwina “Winna” Jill Mordasky, 87, of Stafford, CT, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2022. She was born Edwina Jill Fowler in Lewiston, ME, June 10, 1935, to Edwin and Mary (Field) Fowler. She grew up in Auburn, ME, attending Lake Street Webster Jr. and Edward Little High Schools. She also lived in Ludlow, VT attending Black River High, and Manchester, CT. She was always the struggling class artist and loved playing baritone horn, hoping someday to become independently wealthy in one of these endeavors. At an early age she took the “draw me” art test, and studied correspondently with Art Instructions, Inc. which lead to nowhere but all this time, “stuff” was being stored for later use. She married Francis P. Mordasky in 1954 and was happy to raise their five children on a dairy farm in Stafford CT, rather than in an igloo in Antarctica. She learned to play folk guitar fairly well and loved the blues. She continued in her art work and won several prizes for her paintings, which again lead to nowhere fast. One of her ornaments hangs in the Smithsonian----sort of a feather in the cap. Later in life she took art classes at Asnuntuck Community College, Northlight Art School with Foster Caddell, Scottsdale Art School with James Christensen and Paier School of Art. She taught private students and workshops for over 30 years in painting techniques and designed pattern packets. She was published in many magazines with either painting or creative stamping project articles, she also designed Stafford’s 250th anniversary seal as well as the current town logo (well house) and again…..fame was eluded. She always loved photography, dancing, books, creative stamping, to eat out, antiques, tag sales and playing cards, especially to win at poker. She was blessed with her children, Kevin, Kent, Kurt, Kimberly and Keith living nearby and helping her throughout the years. For many years her husband Francis was ill with M.S. and she never stopped caring for him. She enjoyed nature immensely and her beloved coast of Maine. She was an avid UConn Women’s basketball fan and also Boston Red Sox. Realizing her obituary would a last chance to have the last word she wrote it herself. Nobody will miss her being around more than she will. She is survived by her children, Kevin (Linsley), Kent (Janine), Kurt (Judy), Kim (John) and Keith; grandchildren, Christopher, Crystal, Candice, Corey, Amber, and Sean; great grandchildren, Hannah, Victoria, Khloe, and Kendra; and finally her brother, Sumner. She was predeceased by her husband, Francis; and her sister, Joanne. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 from 11 A.M. – 1 P.M., with a funeral service to take place at 1 P.M., at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial will follow in St. Edward Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT. Memorial donations may be made to the Stafford High School Art Department, 145 Orcuttville Rd., Stafford Springs, CT 06076.
