Eleanora I. Shaffer's Obituary
Eleanora I. Shaffer, 94, of Stafford Springs, CT, wife of the late Frederick A. Shaffer, passed away peacefully with her loving children by her side on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at Evergreen Health Care Center. She was born in Stafford Springs, CT, daughter of the late Harry and Iva (Lamb) Steele. Nora worked as a nurses’ aid at Johnson Memorial Hospital until retirement, and especially loved her time in the pediatric unit. She loved to go dancing with her sister Lucille and her friend John, and enjoyed traveling and painting anything she could get her hands on. She was a hard worker and enjoyed staying busy. Above all, she loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them. Nora is survived by her five children, Joy Cline of California, Donna Mills and her husband Bob of Tolland, CT, Karen Simon and her husband John of Stafford Springs, CT, Kathleen Cosway and her husband Donald of Newington, CT, and Bruce Shaffer and his wife Rose of Stafford Springs, CT; 11 grandchildren, David, Cheri, Kerry, Shannon, Kristen, Kara, Johnny, Megan, Rhonda, Lianna, and Sara; 24 great grandchildren; two sisters, Luana Benedetti of Florida, and Lucille Villano of Stafford Springs, CT; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Cleveland and Sherwood “Hunky” Steele; and sister, Shirley Demers. A calling hour will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 10-11 A.M. with a memorial service to take place at 11 A.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial will be held privately in Stafford Springs Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT. The family would like to send a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Evergreen Health Care Center for all of their care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Foundation, Inc., Attn: Neonatal Unit, 282 Washington St., Hartford, CT 06106, in memory of Nora’s great grandson, Jack Johnson.
