Gail M. Butterfield's Obituary
Gail M. Butterfield, 61, formerly of Springfield, MA passed away on December 14, 2024 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA due to complications from a double lung transplant she received in August 2023. She courageously battled lung disease for four years before her transplant and displayed profound strength and resilience during her extensive ICU stay that followed. She passed away peacefully with “her girls” by her side. She was born in Springfield, MA daughter of the late Walter and Lorraine (Remillard) Missett.
Gail enjoyed getting lost in a good fiction novel, savored several cups of coffee daily, and was a skilled retail therapist. She shared her love of music with her children and grandchildren so often singing loudly and proudly. The kitchen was not only a place for cooking and dining, but also for dance and laughter. She treasured her family and nurtured a loving and indescribable bond between her girls. Gail showed her love in many ways and especially through tradition. As a talented crafter she created countless Halloween costumes, her Christmas cookies were a comforting staple, and her Easter egg hunts were an annual favorite. Her two grandbabies were so special to her, and she spoiled them with as much love and as many sweet treats as she could. Gail’s love extended beyond her children and grandchildren to their closest friends with whom she graciously welcomed into her home. Some of her fondest memories were made with loved ones in Cocoa, FL and at the family home in Cape Cod. Gail’s life touched so many. Her family is grateful to all of the staff at Emory University Hospital who cared for and created special bonds with her throughout her stay. Gail will be deeply missed.
Gail is survived by her four daughters, Cara Shannon Jalbert and her husband Gregory, Lorrin M. Zarlenga, Alessandra L. Introvigne and her husband Michael, and Kate A. Deske and her husband Ryan; two cherished grandchildren, Michael J. Introvigne, Jr. and Giuliana M. Introvigne; her sister, Patricia A. Connors, her husband Brian, and four nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her infant sister, Lori Anne Missett. Per her request, funeral services and burial at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Springfield, MA, will be private.
