At the age of 16, not knowing a word of English, George came to the United States with his family. George graduated from New Britain High school and went on to earn a degree in accounting from the Hartford Institute of Accounting. He was also the owner of Ellington Motors in Ellington, CT but his true love was music. Having been raised in communist Poland, George was fortunate enough to attend Warszawska Akademia Muzyczna (Poland). While at the Akademia he was striving to become a classical clarinetist, where he learned, it was no easy task. It required daily hours of practice and determination. George's favorite saying, regarding his musical talent, was "I am a jack of all trades and a master of none". That was far from the truth! Playing the clarinet, saxophone, guitar, flute, accordion, and mandolin. Performing in bandsfor over 40 years, he was best known for his saxophone playing. He had a sound like no other. When he was unable to perform in the band, he enjoyed sitting behind his Clavinova piano for hours at a time, playing from memory. He was truly an amazing musician. Although George struggled with Parkinsons Disease for 20 years, he will be remembered for his musical ability, his love to entertain others, and his gift of gab. The family would like to thank Dr. Demarcaida of the Chase Family Movement Disorders Center in Vernon, CT for her years of care. Funeral services with burial in Stafford Street Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT, will be held privately.
