Gladys Scarpa's Obituary
Gladys Scarpa, 85, of Willimantic, CT, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2014 at Mansfield Center for Nursing and Rehab surrounded by her loving family. Born February 16, 1929 in Montevideo, Uruguay, she moved to Connecticut in 1973. She was predeceased by her loving husband Giuseppe Scarpa and brothers Nelson and Ruben Diaz of Uruguay, in addition to her parents. She was an accomplished cook who delighted family and employers alike with lovely meals for many years. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Church in Port Chester, NY. The most important part of her life was to enjoy her family and the many friends she made along the way in as many places as she spent time at. She also loved children and cherished every moment with them. In her last two years at the Card Home Residence in Willimantic, she met yet another family of caring and compassionate staff and residents. A special thanks to all of them for their love and support. She is survived by her only child and daughter-in-law, Jose “Pepe” and Eny Scarpa of Stafford Springs, CT; her grandchildren, Patricia Scarpa and Adrian Scarpa and his wife Kulthida of South Windsor, CT; her loving sister, Milia Diaz of Uruguay; and many nephews and cousins also in Uruguay. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Port Chester, NY. Memorial donations can be made to The Card Home for the Aged, 154 Pleasant St., Willimantic, CT 06226.
