Death date: Feb 27, 2015
Gordon M. Cole, 79, of Ashford, CT, husband of 50 years to the late Jane O. (Collins) Cole, passed away on Friday, February 27, 2015. He was born on September 28, 1935 in Springfield, MA, son of the late Gordon M. and Mildred Kath Read Obituary

Having grown up in Ashford myself, I can speak from experience that the Cole family was and still is a fixture in the community. I remember Mr. Cole being around as my father coached Matt during baseball season. Later in life I got to know the 'Colonel' traveling to and spending days at Saratoga Race Course. Mr. Cole was always genuine and respectful and really seemed content and proud of his life and family. If you wanted to laugh, hear some stories, and have a good time, you parked yourself next to Mr. Cole. I think he viewed his children's friends as his friends too and that was just one positive quality of many that sticks out about this man. I just heard about his passing and the entire family has my sympathies.
Chris and Cole Family,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your dad "Gunny". From my brief time of knowing him he seemed to truly have a great passion on enjoying people. His world experience as a marine afforded him an opportunity to live life to the fullest and his laughter would resonate throughout the room. May God Bless and Semper Fi.

Kathy and I would like to send our deepest sympathies to the Cole family. We hope your grief from Gordon's passing will be lessened by the memories of the good times you shared. Chis has told stories of the horse racing excursions and they always leave me laughing. May he rest in peace.

I remember visiting Gordon, Jane and my cousins in Connecticut and Massachusetts as a young teenager. I offered to help mow Gordon's lawn. I couldn't start the mower with the pull string, so he said "let me show you". I stood behind him as he yanked the pull start with all his strength. Behind him watching intently, I remember the back of his arm came flying at me and knocked me out cold!. When I woke up a few seconds later, the lawn mower was roaring, and he said "are you okay young man?" I stood up and started mowing, and he was laughing so hard that he was crying. Well, just know that we will miss you Uncle Gordon, and we will always remember your fun and happy attitude. Keep those angels in line, and may your endless soul go on forever. Love from your nephew Kurt.
