Hazel Graves' Obituary
Hazel Joan (Chapin) Graves, 72, of Union, CT, passed away at home on Saturday, October 2, 2010 with her loving husband Donald and her seven children by her side. She was a devoted wife of 54 years, Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. Her family was everything. She grew up in Springfield, MA and moved to Enfield, CT after marriage and lived there for 16 years. The family moved to their present home in Union, CT in October 1974. She loved the rural atmosphere, quiet, and woods of their Graves Mountain home. She loved to sew and make crafts. She also loved her collections of music boxes, Raggedy Ann’s, dolls, plates, bells, thimbles, spoons, blue collectibles and her favorite one of all, her Christmas village which made for quite the display after years of collecting. She cherished family vacations in Maine each summer. Hazel was dedicated to the Congregational Church of Union’s Sunday school as Superintendent for 35 years. Besides her husband, she leaves behind her sons and daughters, David Graves of Windsor, CT, Donna Graves of Stafford Springs, CT, Daniel Graves of East Hartford, CT, Denise and her husband Steven Babbitt of Union, CT, Darlene and her husband Sean Kelly of Vernon, CT, Douglas Graves of Union, CT, and Dianna Graves of Vernon, CT; her grandchildren, Corey, Ashley, Patrick and his wife Julie, Joseph, Cameron, Elizabeth, Shannon, Elaina, Emilia, and Sean Jr.; her great grandchildren, Shane, Jordan, and Airious; her sisters, Gertrude Ferriter, Lorretta Luman, and step sister Gladys Wajda; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Pearl Scagliarini; step sister Dorothy Williams; and brother Alfred Chapin. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2010 from 5-8 P.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial in Union Center Cemetery, Union, CT, will be held privately. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, October 9, 2010 at 11 A.M. at the Congregational Church of Union, 976 Buckley Highway, Union, CT.
