Henry Satkowski's Obituary
Henry F. Satkowski, 83, of Hydeville Rd., Stafford Springs, CT, beloved husband of Katherine (Dombroski) Satkowski, passed away on Friday, April 21, 2006 at his home surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Henry was born July 28, 1922 in Staffordville, CT, son of the late Felix and Leokadya (Miezejewska) Satkowski. He was a lifelong resident of Stafford, graduated Stafford High School the Class of 1940. As well as playing trumpet in the elementary and high school bands, Henry was also a member of the Phoenix Liberty Stafford Town Band. Henry served his country during World War II, by enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Force in 1942. During his service, he attended Air Force engine and airplane schools, training in single, twin and four engine planes. He became a sergeant and crew chief of the B-29 bomber and was honorably discharged in 1946. He retired after 32 years from G.A.F. Corp. as a machinist. He was a communicant of St. Edward Parish. In Henry's spare time he enjoyed watching UConn basketball, Nascar racing and Red Sox games. He loved the outdoors, working the small family farm and had a great interest in tractors. Henry raised dairy and beef cattle and was a member of the Eastern Conn. Artificial Breeders Assoc. Besides his loving wife, Katherine, of 53 years, Henry is survived by four daughters and their spouses, Linda and Ronald Tremblay, Jr., Diane and John Cichocki, Karen Satkowski and her partner Brian Norbut, and Laurie McKenney, all of Stafford Springs, CT; and Matthew McKenney of Florida, seven grandchildren, Rachel McClure and her husband Stephen, Laura Tremblay, Eric and Stephen Cichocki, and Bruce, Katherine, and Richard McKenney; a great granddaughter, Kylie McClure; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Tadeus Buczkowski of Enfield, CT; two sisters-in-law, Irene Hamilton of Athol, MA, and Josephine Songer and her husband Laurence of Orange, MA; a brother-in-law, Charles Dombroski of Leominster, MA; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph F. Satkowski; and two sisters, Sophia Hanic and Ida Nitka. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. and Mrs. Michael Sharon, their entire staff and the Hospice Team at Visiting Nurse and Health Services of Conn. for their loving care and support. A calling hour will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 from 9:30-10:30 A.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. at St. Edward Church, High St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial with full military honors will follow in St. Edward Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT.
