James L. Peppin's Obituary
James L. Peppin, 88, of Ashford, CT passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Mansfield Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation. He was born in Burlington, VT, son of the late Roland W. Peppin and Alma (Langlois) Charron. He lived in Burlington, VT with his family until they moved to Willimantic when he was 9. He graduated from St. Mary’s School in 1949, Windham High School in 1953, and Deforest Electronic School in Chicago, IL in 1956 with a degree in electronics. In 1960 he married Joyce E. (Scully) Peppin, and they moved to Glastonbury. In 1963 they moved to Columbia, and in 2004 they settled in Ashford. He worked at Cardinal’s TV Repair after graduating until 1960, when he went to work at Kahn & Co. in Hartford in research and development, and multiple other companies before finally settling in 1970 at SNET, until his retirement in 1990. James enjoyed woodworking, stained glass, gardening, model railroading and flying small planes. He was a member of the Columbia Fire Department for 15 years where he had served as Treasurer, the Lions Club, Ashford Senior Center, and the Civil Air Patrol. James is survived by his wife, Joyce (Scully) Peppin; children, Donna Culpepper, James L. Peppin, Jr., Michael Peppin and his wife Valerie, Wendy Simkowitz and her husband Neil, and Holly Kusterer and her husband Justin; grandchildren, Caitlyn McPhatter and her husband Ethan, Cody Culpepper and his wife Michaela, Joseph Peppin, Vanessa Simkowitz, Preston Plourd, and Peighton Marsh and her wife Lex; great grandchild, Kai Culpepper; and sisters-in-law, Lee Sisson, Alice Sanders and her husband Sandy, and Gloria Davis and her husband Bill. He was predeceased by his siblings, Roland W. Peppin, Jr. and Joyce E. Waters. A calling hour will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Philip the Apostle Church, 64 Pompey Hollow Rd., Ashford, CT. Burial will follow the Mass at Westford Hill Cemetery.
