Janet M. Phelps' Obituary
Janet Margaret Phelps, 79, passed away on November 9, 2025 at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness. Janet was born on May 28, 1946, the youngest daughter of the late Floyd and Esther Phelps of Willington, CT. She attended Willington Schools and graduated from Windham High School. She attended Chamberlain School of Retailing in Boston, MA, CPI, Moorse College and Goodwin College. She lived in East Hartford. She survived breast cancer twice.
Janet was employed for 28 years as a cost accountant at Heublein Spirits in Hartford,
where she was a very active member of WAABI (Women’s Association of Allied Beverage
Industries). She was also employed at Capewell Horse Nails Co. and Konover Properties.
She was an active member, for many years, of the Manchester 8th District Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
Janet loved to hike with many friends. They enjoyed hiking in Connecticut, hiking up Mt.
Washington three times and traveling to Ireland to hike. They also Helli Hiked in the Canadian Rockies. These friends loved to travel. They visited many sites in Europe and parts of Northern Africa, Mexico, Iceland, Central America and almost all 50 United States.
Recently she made her home at The Village at Buckland Court in South Windsor with Skippy,
her beloved cat. She enjoyed the friendships she made and had a very active life there, enjoying all the activities and the good times. Her family is very grateful for all the love and happiness she found there.
Janet is survived by her sister, Patti Locke and her husband Danny of Willington, and Nancy
Johndrow (her late husband Kenny) of Ellington. Janet was “auntie” to Kimberly and Jason Panciera and children Kendall, Garrett and Shea of Creedmoor, NC; Jennifer and Marc Jeffreys and children, Macon, Carley, Ellee, Jake and Luke of Willington; David and Sharon Johndrow of Ellington and children Katelin and Megan; Alison and Tony Rufrano and daughter Ava Grace of Ashford; and Scott Johndrow of Herriman, UT. She also leaves many cousins including Linda Klecak, a best friend since high school; a longtime friend, Robert Damato and his daughter Lauren who has been like a daughter to her.
Janet was a member of the Nutmeg Big Brother Big Sister program. Janet and her “little
Sister” Yaisa Perez Diaz have shared a close friendship for thirty-nine years, always staying close in each other’s lives.
A calling hour will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM, with a memorial service beginning at 4:00 PM at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial in Willington Hill Cemetery, Willington, CT, will be private. Memorial donations are welcome to the Nutmeg Big Brothers Big Sisters, 34 Sequassen St. Suite 202, Hartford, CT 06106.
