Joanne Saunders' Obituary
Joanne Almeada Saunders, 79, of Ellington, CT, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Rockville General Hospital. She was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of the late Lewis and Kathleen (Burns) Crossman. Joanne was a graduate of Calais High School in 1951, and Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. She worked in various positions as a Registered Nurse in Maine and Connecticut until retiring in 2000. She was a member of St. Edward Parish and Ladies Guild, and enjoyed knitting and reading. Joanne is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Gary N. Saunders; three children, Lynn Blauvelt, Lewis Saunders and his wife Patricia, and Guy Saunders; two grandchildren, Ashley and Nathanial Blauvelt; two step grandchildren, John Matthews and his wife Sharon, and Tina Provencher and her husband Kevin; and eight great grandchildren, Aiden James Blauvelt, Courtney, Addison, Allan, and Allisha Matthews, and Sarah, Tyler, and Carlie Provencher. She was predeceased by her brother, Arthur P. Crossman. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 2 P.M. at Calais Cemetery, South St., Calais, ME. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 4 P.M. at St. Edward Church, High St., Stafford Springs, CT.
