John J. Barry Jr.'s Obituary
John J. Barry, Jr., 79, of Stafford Springs, CT, husband of the late Mary Ellen (Unwin) Barry, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Gaylord Hospital, Wallingford, CT. He was born in East Hartford, CT, son of the late John J. Barry, Sr. and Eileen F. (Harrington) Barry. John served our country in the United States Army. He retired from Flamingo Motorsports in Palmer, MA, and most recently had worked as an assistant to the golf pro at Rolling Meadows Country Club.
John’s military service was a source of deep pride throughout his life. He was known for his distinguished service during the Vietnam era, carrying forward the values of duty, loyalty, and camaraderie that defined his time in uniform, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam with the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam. He received several medals while serving, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with two stars, the Army Commendation Medal and a Bronze Star. After his service, John remained devoted to supporting fellow veterans and his community through his active involvement with American Legion Post No. 26 in Stafford Springs. His dedication to honoring those who served, as well as his efforts in strengthening the bonds of fellowship among veterans, earned him respect and admiration from all who knew him.
John is survived by his daughter Kathleen E. Choma and her daughter Deanna Choma and her fiancé Felipe Lombello of Florida; daughter Stacey L. Slater and her husband Kevin Slater and their children Shannon and Connor Slater of Florida; daughter Kristin B. Kealy and her husband Timothy Kealy and their children Mairead and Ailis Kealy of Monson, MA; son John J. Barry IV “Jack” and his wife Karen Barry and their daughter Ciara Barry of Coventry, CT; sister Eileen Constant and her husband Michael of East Hartford, CT; and many nieces, nephews and close friends. He was predeceased by his sons-in-law Glen Carvey and Phil Choma.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 PM at St. Edward Church, 55 High St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Edward Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT. Memorial donations may be made to American Legion Post No. 26, 10 Monson Rd., Stafford Springs, CT 06076 for a scholarship fund in his name.
