John Kapinos' Obituary
John Kapinos, of Willington, Connecticut, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 in the company of his wife Gail, and his children, Allie and Robert. John was employed for over 40 years in the nuclear industry. He started at Combustion Engineering upon graduation from the University of Connecticut with a Master’s degree, as a Nuclear Safety Engineer in fuels. The last 20 years have been at Dominion Resources / Millstone Power Station, most recently as a Nuclear Design Engineer. John’s passion for work sustained him through his illness. He continued to work up until the last few weeks. Although work was a dedication, home was his life. John embraced the restoration of a 175 year old Greek Revival house in Willington. He designed and built several post and beam structures on the property. He and Gail enjoyed working side by side with their horses, chickens and dog. They loved to cook, garden and be together. Once in a while they relaxed. His passing is mourned as his life and spirit are celebrated. John was a long time member of the Storrs Congregational Church Community. His was a ministry of food, humor, hard work and song. John was involved in Christian Fellowship, Choir and generally any event involving food or any commitment Gail had made. John leaves behind his wife Gail; his daughter Alicia Kapinos and her husband Marc Ginnett; (grandchildren Josh, Ryan, Emma and Hayden); his son, Robert Kapinos, and his wife Maria; (grandchildren David, Katie, Selena and Lia); father, Frank Kapinos; formerly of Norwich, CT; brothers Michael, David and his wife Rachel; Peter and his wife Vicki; Alex and his wife Joanne; numerous nieces and nephews; and his Scottie, Elin. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Storrs Congregational Church, 2 North Eagleville Rd., Storrs, CT.
