John W. Marcisin's Obituary
John W. Marcisin, 90, of Ashford, CT, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. He was born in Passaic, NJ, son of the late Vasil and Meri (Glita) Marcisin. John served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Technician Fifth Grade in the 394th Infantry Medical Detachment, and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a University of Connecticut graduate, obtaining his MBA, and also later worked there as an instructor. John worked as an industrial engineer for American Screw Company in Willimantic, CT, and then started his own business as an industrial engineering management consultant. John was a parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle Church, where he was an usher and bell ringer for over 50 years. He was active in the Town of Ashford as well. At one time he was Ashford’s Third Selectmen, and was a member of the Board of Education, Board of Finance, and Zoning Board of Appeals. He was also on the Ashford Elementary School building committee. John was a member the Ashford Senior Center, Boy Scout Troop #92 of Ashford, the VFW, and the Elks Lodge #1311 in Willimantic. The family would like to especially thank all of the home caretakers for their continuous support. John is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Catherine (Ference) Marcisin; three daughters, Kathleen Donahue of Willimantic, CT, Patrice Lucas and her husband Wayne of Chaplin, CT, and Jean Hansen and her husband Henry of Chaplin, CT; six grandchildren, Angela Slitt and her husband Andy, Aaron Lucas, Kelly Donahue-Piro and her husband Andrew, Timothy Donahue, Johnathan Hansen, and Jennifer Hansen-Karkos and her husband Matthew; four great grandchildren, Allison, Noah, Benjamin, and Sara Slitt; brother-in-law, George Ference; sister-in-law, Dorothy Ference; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his three New Jersey brothers, John Hnath, Michael Hnath, and Michael Marcisin. His funeral will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016, with a procession forming by 10 A.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. at St. Philip the Apostle Church, Pompey Hollow Rd., Ashford, CT. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Philip Cemetery, Ashford, CT. Calling hours are on Friday from 5-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
