John A. Pirzl's Obituary
John A. Pirzl, 84, of Ashford, CT, husband of the late Elizabeth C. (Zelek) Pirzl, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2015. He was born in Hartford, CT, son of the late Hans and Theresa (Mohrman) Pirzl. He grew up in East Hartford, CT graduating from East Hartford High in 1949 then graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree in 1954, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and retired from Pratt and Whitney Aircraft in 1985. He was a member of the Mason’s Columbia Lodge No. 25 A.F. & A.M., VFW Post No. 2083 of East Hartford, and the Lake Chaffee Association. John spent much of his life supporting the organizations that he belonged to. For years he ran weekly Bingo’s for the VFW, St. Philips Church and The Lake Chaffee Association while, also, holding the position of Treasurer of the Lake Association for much of that time. He was a very private person with a humble and positive nature and seems to have cultivated many deep and lasting friendships throughout his lifetime. Our family has realized over the past few years just how special the residents of the Lake Association are. How much they look after each other and just why he was so happy living there. He enjoyed playing cards and actually going to Bingos (instead of running them) each week with Pauline, MaryAnn, and Kay. He really looked forward to bowling with his leagues each Monday and Thursday mornings and really hated the thought of missing them for health reasons, holidays or snow days. All of these activities, family and friends helped him to make a new life for himself after the loss of his beloved wife, Liz. Jack has been truly blessed to have his late wife's family in his life all of these years. As a couple they enjoyed years of special times together which continued for him after her death. Dorothy "Dot" and her son, Jim called and visited him on a regular basis. He loved and cared deeply about everyone in Liz's and his family. John is survived by several nieces and nephews; his sister-in-law Dorothy Traficanti of Newington, CT; and his special friend Pauline Backhaus of Ashford, CT. He was predeceased by his brother William Pirzl; and two sisters, Alice Roberto and Dorothy Borst. There will be calling hours held from 10:00-11:30 A.M. followed by a funeral service at 11:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
