John H. Works' Obituary
John H. Works, 78, of Stafford Springs, CT, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Midstate Medical Center, Meriden, CT. He was born in Stafford Springs, CT, son of the late Marcus and Anna (Serafin) Works. He was predeceased by his brothers, Francis, Noel and Paul Works. John was self employed as a construction contractor and rigger for many years. He was true to the name of being a “Jack of all Trades”. He was the man the community called when they needed bridges built, dams repaired and historic barns, sawmills and churches resurrected. He most recently saved and restored the historic Orcuttville barn in Stafford Springs and the Wesleyan Methodist Church in East Windsor, CT. He was a licensed rigger who moved large machines and equipment for many local business including Warren Woolen and Cuno. He was called the “Best Contractor in Tolland County” by those who knew him. When he wasn’t working he loved to cook, garden, and watch the history channel. He was an avid reader of non-fiction especially books on World War II and airplanes. He loved to travel and was able to travel the country and many places in the world with his family. When he wasn’t traveling, he would sit in his chair with his favorite cat(s), most recently Angel, who he took great pleasure in feeding “snickees”. He is survived by his best friend and soul-mate of 25 years, Joan Johnson; children, Teresa Works and her husband John Gonzalez of New Britain, CT; Lorna Works Maguire of Nashua, NH; Peter Works of Chaplin, CT; Dawn Works-Dennis and her husband Tom of Norwich, CT; Susan Henderson and her husband Marty of Colorado Springs, CO; and Stephen Johnson and his wife Wendy of Stafford Springs, CT. He also leaves eleven grandchildren, Christian, Grace and Evan Gonzalez; Caroline, Catherine and Meghan Maguire; Tom Jr., Callie and Christopher Dennis; Ingrid Henderson; and Luke Henderson and his wife Sydney. He leaves two great-grandchildren, Michia Donahoo and Cion Dorr. He is survived by his sister, Judy McAnanama of Stafford Springs, CT. He leaves very dear friends, Dick and JoAnn West; and all his friends in the men’s group at the First United Methodist Church. John was a friend of Bill W. for 27 years with the support of Bob B. The family would like to thank the Dr. Schaner and the staff of Midstate Medical Center for their compassionate care. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2017 from 2-4 P.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT. His funeral service will take place on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 11 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church, 8 Church St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial will be held privately.
