Joyce L. Claus' Obituary
Joyce L. Claus, age 91, of Willington, CT, loving wife of Richard E. Claus, Sr., passed away peacefully on September 23, 2017 in her Willington, CT home where she lived for the past 50 years. She was born in Hartford, CT in 1926 as the only child of Donald and Florence (Weiman) Lee. Joyce’s early years shaped and helped develop her inner strength and her amazing character. Joyce and Richard became an inseparable couple on October 1, 1949. Joyce loved to dance, and taught Ballroom dancing at the Bond Hotel in Hartford, CT. Dancing was a passion that they both shared. Joyce worked as a keypunch operator at Pratt and Whitney for a number of years before starting a family. Her family was unquestionably her greatest joy. She leaves behind three children, Richard E. Claus, Jr. and his wife Nora, Dr. James Claus and his wife Susan, and Deborah Slayton and her husband Marvin. Her children will attest that she always placed them and her husband’s needs before herself. Joyce absolutely loved the ocean and enjoyed taking her children to the beach, as well as spending time at Cape Cod. She also enjoyed her home, animals, baking, gardening, and bird watching. In addition to her children, Joyce leaves behind four grandchildren, Nora Bergeron and her husband Mike, Dr. Heidi Morey and her husband Dr. Scott, Justin Claus, and Mitchell Claus, and four great grandchildren. She was loved and will be missed greatly by her family and friends. For 48 years, Joyce was a proud member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Willington Hill Fire Department, in which she served as a past president. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Women’s Auxiliary of the Willington Hill Fire Department, 24 Old Farms Rd., Willington, CT 06279. The family wishes to thank the VNA of Vernon, and the staff of Caring Hands of Vernon, for the excellent care given to Joyce. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours or service. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., Stafford Springs, CT, has care of the arrangements. For online condolences, please visit: www.introvignefuneralhome.com
