Mahlon F. "Mike" Hayden's Obituary
Mahlon F. “Mike” Hayden died on January 21, 2015. He was born on May 18, 1929 in North Adams, MA where he attended local public schools. After Army service in Panama he attended and graduated from Williams College. Later he earned Masters Degrees from Yale and Wesleyan Universities. He taught physics and chemistry for 37 years, the last 30 of which were at E. O. Smith High School in Storrs, CT. Mike was married for 63 happy years to the former Jean Coons. He and Jean shared many interests. One of them was traveling, mostly in this country. They visited and camped in all 50 of the United States as well as all of the Provinces and Territories in Canada. During their retirement years they devoted much time as volunteers for Joshua’s (land) Trust, and in Stafford for the Senior Center, the Public Library and the Historical Society. Other survivors include their son Glen and his wife Linda of Trumbull, CT, son Keith and his wife Nancy “Nace” of Glastonbury, CT, grandchildren Christopher, Lyndsey, Brooke and Donald “Lee”, and step-grandchildren Emily Markwald-Brown, and Jared Markwald and his wife Laura. Arrangements are being handled by the Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., Stafford Springs, CT. There will be no calling hours and burial in Storrs Cemetery, Storrs, CT, will take place privately.
