Marie D. Guiles' Obituary
Marie Domenica (Genovese) Guiles, 84, formerly of Ashford, CT, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 30, 2024. Beloved wife, mother, & grandmother, she was born in Waterbury, CT, daughter of the late Pietro and Mary (Colangelo) Genovese. She spent her career working at the University of Connecticut School of Agriculture and was an active member of St. Philip the Apostle Church community including the choir before moving to New Jersey.
Marie is survived by her four children, David Guiles, Linda Bergeron, Lisa Guiles and her husband TJ Walther, and Christopher Guiles and his wife Yoshiko; five grandchildren, Christine and her husband Michael, Tiffany, Britlyn and her husband Jimmy, Branden and his wife Ashley, and Ryan and his wife Laura; twelve great grandchildren, Christopher and Madalyn, Daniel, and Naylyn, Myla, and Tyler, Hunter, Hannah, and Hudson, and Logan, Erin, and Elliot; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Clarence W. “Bill” Guiles; and two brothers, Savario Genovese and Joseph Genovese.
Marie grew up on Maple St. in Waterbury. Soon after graduating Waterbury Catholic High School, she married her sweetheart, Bill, from nearby Cheshire. Bill had just enlisted in the Navy & for the next 20 years they lived in many places across the country & the world. During this time and after they settled in Ashford, Marie & Bill raised four children and made many dear, lifelong friends: Norma & Dick Rosenberry, Dolores & David Murphy, Don Umstead, Gary & Carol Lindstrom, Caroline & John Doughty, Lois & Dick Mindek, Jeff Roy and Gail & Greg Runion, and so many others too numerous to list here. ALL these friendships were deeply cherished.
In addition to spending time with family & friends, Marie also loved taking care of her home, cooking, & tending to the yard & watching the birds visit the many feeders she & Bill put up and dutifully filled throughout the year. She especially loved little children & animals. Among the many loyal dog companions she cared for over the years were Patches, little Amber, & her beloved Sonny.
Soon after Bill passed away in 2016, Marie moved down to Toms River, New Jersey, to live with her daughter Lisa & son-in-law TJ Walther. While there, she kept a watchful eye on the many dogs, cats, chickens, & birds all while enjoying the loving care Lisa & TJ provided with the support of her dedicated caregivers throughout her long illness.
Marie never had an unkind word for anyone. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend, and neighbor anyone could ever ask for. We will miss her terribly from now until we are all reunited in the next life.
