Marjorie K. Dunn's Obituary
At age 98, Marjorie Kramer Dunn passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at The Pines of Bristol Center. The second of four daughters of the late William and Margaret (O'Brien) Kramer, she had wonderful family memories with her sisters growing up in Hartford and the neighborhood of West Morningside Street. Following her graduation in 1944 from Weaver High School, Marge began an early career in the insurance industry, which she resumed later in life. Upon her marriage in 1948, she moved to Bristol where she raised her family of four sons and lived until her passing.
Marjorie is survived by her sons Mark Dunn and wife Ialeen of Stafford, CT, Michael Dunn and wife Claudia of Superior, NE, Brian J. Dunn of Terryville, CT, and daughter-in-law Marsha Dunn of Myrtle Beach, SC. She leaves behind her devoted sister, Irene Kramer of Rocky Hill, CT, and her brother-in-law Edward Dunn of Hillsboro, OR. Nana also leaves to cherish her memory her grandchildren: Steven (Amy) Dunn, Erin (Brian) Milnes, Patrick (Amy) Dunn, Nathan (Cally) Dunn, Kelly (Terry) Everhart, Jason (Christine) Dunn, Brittany (Eric) Garcia, Kelly Dunn, and Meghann (Jualbert) Mendez. Her legacy as SuperNana includes her great grandchildren Kaitlyn, Jillian, Matthew, Shannon, Patrick, Kristen, Michael, Tyler, Katelyn, Brody, Nicholas, Gabriella, Chloe and Shae. Aunt Marge was blessed with sweet memories of her nephews and nieces. She also leaves behind her neighbor of many years and good friend Mary Ellen Zoppo. Marjorie was pre-deceased by her son John Dunn, grandson Brian J. Dunn Jr. and sisters Alice Hill and Rosalie LaTorra.
A social person by nature, with a huge competitive streak and quick wit, over the years Marge retained a large circle of friendships, from schoolmates, co-workers, neighbors, and parents of her sons' classmates and pals. She was a fixture at her sons' early athletic events and activities and an ardent supporter of Bristol Eastern and St. Paul's football and track teams. She reminisced with a smile spending summer days with her boys at the little Cheerio cottage in Clinton, recalled with love the trips with her sister Irene to Ireland and California, and her adventures visiting Mike and family in South Carolina. From her bowling league days at Spare Time, to Bristol Senior Center bingo, and cards and fellowship with her neighbors at 510 Stafford Avenue, Marge was always ready for a game.
With her spirited nature, Marge spent her later years as an ardent fan of UCONN basketball, the Green Bay Packers and the New York Yankees. She found peace sitting by her third floor picture window doing her crossword puzzles, reading, and capturing the view and changing seasons. She was a communicant at St. Gregory Church, a member of the Bristol Senior Center, and enjoyed being an election day poll worker for the City of Bristol. Gatherings at James P Casey Road or at Staffordville Lake brought joy as she loved sitting around a dining table, by the pool, or on the deck with family, which expanded to include cherished grandchildren and their spouses and great-grands who called her Super Nana.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Pines for their care this past year, and the hospice nurses from Constellation for the guidance they provided. Also, much appreciation to the army of aides and workers who supported Marge in the past 10 years as she strove to live independently in her home.
A graveside service at Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield, CT will be held on November 14, 2024 at 11:00 AM, officiated by Fr. John Leonard of St Patrick-St. Anthony Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation in Marjorie's name to the Bristol Senior Center, 240 Stafford Avenue, Bristol, CT 06010.
