Martin Drobney's Obituary
Martin Drobney, 95, of Willington, CT, husband of Isabel (Hammond) Drobney for 61 years, went in peace to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who he loved and served for many, many years. Martin was born in Willington, CT, where he spent his entire life, except for the time spent serving his country during World War II. After enlisting, Martin asked for permission to be with his family for Christmas, which was granted, but exemplifies his love for his family. Martin did his basic training at Fort Dix, NJ was a Master Sergeant of the 3rd Tactical Control Group and radar repairman, and served in the battle of Papua, New Guinea. He served with dignity and honor for 27 months. Martin graduated from Willington Schools and from the University of Connecticut. He worked as a Hydrogeologist with USDA and Connecticut Soil Conservation Service in Storrs. Martin also served on the Willington Conservation Commission and Inland Wetlands Commission for many years. Besides his wife, Martin leaves four children to mourn his passing and will miss him: daughter, Dorothy “Debby” Brown and her husband Michael, three sons, Martin J. Drobney, Mark Drobney and his wife Dorothy “Dot”, all of Willington, CT, and Michael Drobney and his wife Kristin of Ridgefield, CT. He also leaves five grandchildren, Christopher, Colin, and Andrew Brown, and Kate and Mark Drobney, all of whom he loved dearly. Martin was predeceased by his mother and father, Julia and Martin Drobney. His father passed when young Martin was only two years of age, but he was blessed with a stepfather, John Burdick, a few years later. He was a wonderful father to Julia’s eight children. Martin was also predeceased by his seven sisters, Ann, Suzanne, Judith, Kay, Millie, Betty, and Helen. Isabel and the family would like to thank their dear friends who helped us during the long period Marty was ill, Linda and Peter Norval, and Heidi and Michael Moore, as well as all who prayed for Marty during his long illness. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 11 A.M. at Willington Hill Cemetery, Tolland Turnpike, Willington, CT.
