Mary Ellen Barry's Obituary
Mary Ellen (Unwin) Barry, 67, of Stafford Springs, CT and formerly of East Hartford, CT, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a long battle with Frontotemporal Dementia on Monday, September 22, 2014. She was born in New Britain, CT, daughter of the late Clement J. and Ruth A. (Wood) Unwin. Mary Ellen is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, John J. Barry, Jr.; daughter Kathleen E. Choma and her husband Phil Choma and their daughter Deanna Choma of Fern Park, FL; daughter Stacey L. Slater and her husband Kevin Slater and their children Shannon and Connor Slater of Stafford Springs, CT; daughter Kristin B. Kealy and her husband Timothy Kealy and their children Mairead and Ailis Kealy of Monson, MA; son John J. Barry IV “Jack” and his wife Karen Barry and their expectant daughter of Coventry, CT; sister Nancy Griffith and her husband Fred of Southington, CT; brother John Unwin and his wife Laura of Bristol, CT; sister-in-law Eileen Constant and her husband Michael of East Hartford, CT; sister-in-law Lisa Unwin of Pittsfield, VT; sister-in-law Sarah Jackson of Plainville, CT; and many nieces, nephews and close friends. She was predeceased by her brother Thomas Unwin; and son-in-law Glen Carvey. Mary Ellen was a proud member of the Jr. Women’s Club of East Hartford. John and Mary Ellen were married on September 23, 1967 and traveled and lived in Germany and Texas before creating their home in East Hartford. She worked for many years at Pats Medical Pharmacy and then Arrow Pharmacy where she was a lead pharmacy tech. She taught her daughters early to Irish Step dance and was an active hockey mom with her son, and she never missed a show, feis or game. She enjoyed watching her daughters dance and then watching her granddaughters follow in the same footsteps, making many of the intricate dresses herself for the girls. She spent summers with her husband and children and then grandchildren at Sun Valley Beach Resort camping, swimming, planting beautiful flowers, and making lifelong friends. She also enjoyed golfing with her husband and friends. Her most cherishes times were spent with her family and her beloved grandchildren who lit up her world. The family would like to give a special thank you for the excellent care she received at Evergreen Health Care Center, especially the care received from: Becky Nash, Pierre Jabouin and Audra Lauf. Her funeral will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014, with a procession forming by 9 A.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. at St. Edward Church, High St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial will be held privately at a later date. Calling hours are on Thursday from 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home.
