Mary S. Goodrich's Obituary
Mary (Svejk) Goodrich passed away peacefully on Monday, July 15 at the age of 87. She was predeceased by her husband, Sydney Goodrich and brother, Anthony Svejk Jr.
Mary was born in 1938 in New York City to Anthony and Mary (Marek) Svejk. She was a lifelong resident of Connecticut. She graduated from the Academy of Saint Joseph in Long Island, NY and worked for The Phoenix Insurance Company. She married Sydney Goodrich in 1958, and they shared sixty years together raising a family and settling in the town of Willington.
In addition to raising a family, Mary also worked as an employee of the State of Connecticut in various positions including the UConn Library in the book processing department prior to retiring.
Mary was an active member of the board of education, served as a registrar of voters, and as a member of the town library board for many years. She enjoyed living in the country, growing flowers, and her flower gardens were the envy of the neighborhood. In her younger years she was an avid swimmer and ice skater, and enjoyed teaching her sons, nieces, and nephews.
Mary had a passion for music, which she shared with her son, Glenn. Her favorite performer was Elvis Presley, and she was so excited when she finally got to visit Graceland in Memphis, TN following her retirement.
Mary is survived by her brother, James Svejk, and his wife, Jane; her son, Mark, and his partner, Donna; and her son, Glenn, and his partner, Oanh. She is also survived by her adopted son, John Laverdiere.
Mary is also survived by her two treasured granddaughters, Jillian Ava and Isla Kate Goodrich; her favorite niece, Dawn Lomden; her nephew, David Goodrich, and his wife, Margaret; and her nephews, Chris and Mathew Svejk.
Mary also leaves behind her close friend, Patricia Piatek, whom she forged a friendship with dating back to the 1970s.
The family asks that those who knew Mary practice a random act of kindness in her honor.
