Mary "Dottie" Roberge's Obituary
Mary Dorothea (Dottie) Roberge of Enfield, CT, formerly of San Francisco, CA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at the age of 104. She was born on August 29, 1919 in Pawtucket, RI to the late Henri and Helen (Flanagan) Roberge. Dottie served our country in the U.S. Navy stationed in New York City during World War II. After being honorably discharged in 1946, Dottie moved to Los Angeles to further her education, becoming a tax accountant for a California architectural firm and then worked in Shanghai, China and Okinawa, Japan for three years. In 1952, Dottie moved back to California making San Francisco her home where she lived for over 60 years. Dottie was a member of the California Club of California, a private women’s club, serving on their Board of Directors, including serving a term as President. She was a volunteer and Board Member of the San Francisco Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; was a member of the Pacific Heights Chapter of AARP, serving on their Board of Directors; and also volunteered for the San Francisco Decorator’s Showcase House. Dottie also enjoyed her membership in the San Francisco Breakfast Club, a club with over 200 members that met at the Fairmont Hotel for Brunch every month. She was a member of the San Francisco Fine Arts Museum and held season tickets to the San Francisco Symphony and Ballet for 25 years. After moving to Connecticut, she enjoyed attending events at the Bushnell, where she held season tickets, and at Hartford Stage.
In her earlier years Dottie loved to golf, ski and hike, and in her later years she took up the game of bridge. She moved to Connecticut in 2010 to be close to her family and joined the Vernon and Ellington Senior Centers where she enjoyed playing bridge.
Dottie is survived by her nephews, Steve Wotherspoon and his wife Linda of Stafford Springs, CT, Paul Wotherspoon and his wife Nikki of Tallahassee, FL, William Roberge and his wife Mary of Batavia, IL; her nieces, Debra Hilvers and her husband Timothy of Belleville, MI, Sandra Richmond and her husband Charles of Perrysburg, OH, Carol Gould of Maumee, OH, Teresa Sharp of Fremont, OH; and several great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, William Roberge; her sisters, Eileen Roberge, Jean Wotherspoon and Myrtle Roberge; nephew, T.J. Wotherspoon; and niece, Mary D. Roberge.
Her family would like to thank all of the caregivers at St. Joseph’s residence in Enfield, CT for the wonderful care they gave her during her time there.
There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Bernard Church, 25 St. Bernard Terrace, Vernon, CT. Burial will be private.
