Mildred McQuaid's Obituary
Mildred McQuaid, 100, passed away on September 30, 2021. She was born on February 25, 1921, in Stafford, CT, daughter of the late Leroy and Maude (Armstrong) Downes. Mildred was married for 54 years to the love of her life, Hugh J. McQuaid who passed away in 1998. She was predeceased by her brothers, John R. Downes and Leroy M. Downes, and sister, Margaret Downes. She had four children, Ellen Perrone, Ilene Whitmarsh, Hugh J. McQuaid, Jr., and Gale Tryon-Bell, 8 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. For most of her life she was a business owner and resident of West Stafford. She loved her career as a Real Estate Broker for H.J. McQuaid Agency and then Century 21 H. J. McQuaid. She was involved in the community in the PTA, the West Stafford Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Johnson Memorial Hospital, and the Food Pantry at the Community United Methodist Church at Crystal Lake, where she was a member. Her last few years were spent at East Village Place in East Longmeadow, where she was known as “Gramma” to all, and also known for her love of coffee. She was a loving mother, grandmother and Great grandmother and will be missed by all. A calling hour will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 from 10-11 A.M., with a funeral service to take place at 11 A.M., at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial will follow in West Stafford Cemetery, Stafford, CT. Memorial donations may be made to the Community United Methodist Church at Crystal Lake, 278 Sandy Beach Rd., Ellington, CT 06029.
