He was born on August 7, 1934 in Stafford Springs, CT, son of the late Harry and Norma Gilbert of Woodstock, CT. After 18 years of being snowbirds, Norman and Lois became full time residents of Palm Harbor, FL two years ago after spending a majority of their lifetime raising their family in Stafford Springs, CT and vacationing in the Northeast. We have many fond memories of all the friends and family members still in that area. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lois (Pellizari) Gilbert; sister and her husband, Phyllis and Albert Concato of Woodstock, CT; sister-in-law and her husband, Linda and Wayne Hillebrecht of Stafford Springs, CT; daughter, Beth Ann Gilbert and Joseph Boutin; son, Jack Gilbert and Jane Soltys; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; nieces, a nephew, and many wonderful friends. Norman graduated from Stafford High School in Stafford Springs, CT. He served three years with the United States Marine Corps, and was at one time appointed to serve with a select group of 100 Marines as Marine Ceremonial Guard for President Eisenhower in Washington DC, then promoted to Sergeant at Quantico, VA, where he was stationed with the Marine Military Police. Norman retired from Northeast Utilities in 1992 after thirty six years of service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in his name to the COPD Foundation, 3300 Ponce de Leon Blvd., Miami, FL 33134.
