Norman P. Lutzen's Obituary
Norman P. Lutzen, 86 years young, passed away peacefully at St. Francis Hospital on December 12, 2022. Norm was born in Hartford, CT, the youngest of eight siblings born to Martin and Maria (Damm) Lutzen. He spent his early years in East Hartford, where at a very young age he took pride in helping his dad build the family home. This was the beginning of his strong work ethic. In 1954, Norm joined the U.S. Navy Seabees, where he proudly served for four years. After serving in the military, Norm married and moved to Manchester where he raised his family; Robert Lutzen(Laurie), Linda(Mark Young), Susan(Robert O’Brien), and Pamela(Thomas Quinn). Norm also leaves behind twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. For over 50 years, Norm worked as a master plumber, having owned and operated his own business until his reluctant retirement in 2018. In 1978, Norm moved to Stafford, CT where he began his new life and found his future wife Janice Cooley. She introduced him to her love of horses and before long Norm purchased his beloved quarter horse King. Together they enjoyed many years of fun experiences. Norm also loved gathering, cutting, stacking and burning his own wood. He especially loved sitting by his stove watching the UConn men’s and women’s basketball teams. He and Janice traveled to many different parts of the world, but his favorite place was his summer cottage in Westerly, where he welcomed all, among them a special friend, Alan Buck. Norm was a member of the Stafford Springs Congregational Church, Strazza, Tonoli-Emhoff Post No. 26 American Legion and Reddington Rock Riding Club. He and Janice hosted the annual turkey hunt for over 25 years. He leaves behind to mourn his beloved wife Janice and his devoted and loving Havanese, Buttons. Special mention to his step daughter Cynthia Cooley, and friends Keith Pettee and Lou Rematti. Per Norm’s request there are no calling hours, however a memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced. Memorial donations in Norm’s name may be made to the Stafford Springs Congregational Church, 3 Main St., Stafford Springs, CT 06076 or the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111.
