He was born in Stafford Springs, CT, son of the late Louis, Sr. and Gertrude (Panciera) Lazzerin. Ray was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Ray worked for DeCicco's Garage for many years and later for the Town of Stafford, retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. Edward Parish, the Stafford Senior Center and a 52 year member of the Strazza, Tonoli-Emhoff Post No. 26 American Legion. Ray is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Gabrielle 'Ella' (Tremko-Canestrari) Lazzerin of Stafford Springs, CT; a son, Michael Canestrari and his wife Angela of Ellington, CT; four grandchildren, Morgan, Ryan, Kayla, and Ricky; a sister, Mary Ruckdeschel and her husband Bob of Cape Coral, Florida; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a son, Thomas E. Canestrari; and a brother, Louis Lazzerin, Jr. Ray was a strong man. He endured much illness in his final years, but his priorities never changed. He celebrated family and his face would always light up at the sight of his grandchildren. He enjoyed riding around town and socializing with everyone, especially those that served in the military. Ray was especially proud of his naval service in WWII and the Korean War and had a knack for immediately bonding with other service men and women. Living in Stafford Springs his entire life, he will be missed by his many friends and especially by his family.
