Raymond H. McCaughey's Obituary
Raymond Henry McCaughey, 79, of Willington, CT, went to be with Jesus his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at Manchester Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Stafford, CT, son of the late Fred and Mary (Jackopsic) McCaughey. Ray served our country in the United States Army 82nd Airborne Division during the Vietnam Era, and retired after 42 years from 3-M in Stafford having worked in the production line. He was a hard worker and had a great work ethic. He and his wife were also event staff workers for many UCONN events. Ray was a parishioner and eucharistic minister at St. Philip the Apostle Church, member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6934, and member of the American Legion Post No. 26 in Stafford. Ray was a devote Catholic and had unwavering faith that helped his battle with cancer. His beloved cat, Ebony, would sit on his shoulder everyday as he prayed to his patron saints, St. Francis and St. Claire. Ray’s hobbies included playing softball, camping, and going for walks. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years and daughters, Shirley McCaughey, Lorie McCaughey of Orlando, FL and Dawn Persechino of Manchester, CT; brother, Joseph McCaughey and his wife Francine; sister, Barbara (McCaughey) Ayers and her husband Gary; his special cousin, who continued to be there for Ray and his family offering care and support, Susan (Ogden) Crickmore; and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Fred McCaughey and his wife Laurie. The family would also like to give special thanks to Manchester Memorial Hospital oncology and hospice unit, and to his oncology doctor, Dr. McLoughlin, and the nurses at the John A. DeQuattro cancer center, for all of their care and support throughout Ray’s illness. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 from 9:30 – 11:00 A.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 P.M. at St. Philip the Apostle Church, 64 Pompey Hollow Rd., Ashford, CT. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Philip Cemetery, Ashford, CT.
