Richard E. Fournier Sr.'s Obituary
Richard E. Fournier, Sr., age 92, of Enfield, CT passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Johnson Memorial Hospital, accompanied by his family and beckoned by a beautiful sunset.
Richard was born September 8, 1932, in Danielson, CT, to the late Aime and Cecile (Bernier) Fournier. A proud graduate of the University of Connecticut, he followed his father and became a pharmacist, owning and operating Enfield Pharmacy for over 30 years.
In his retirement, while continuing to work at independent drugstores in Enfield, Richard served as an adjunct faculty member in the School of Pharmacy at UConn and was a longstanding volunteer for the Enfield Food Shelf.
Richard served our country in the U.S. Army in South Korea and was a founding member of Holy Family Church in Enfield.
A dedicated fan of UConn men’s and women’s basketball, Richard also greatly enjoyed a round of golf with family or friends, tackling the daily crossword puzzle, and was an avid reader of mystery novels.
A devoted husband, loving father, and caring uncle and grandfather, Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth (Sfreddo) Fournier; son, Richard E. Fournier, Jr. and his wife Karen; four grandchildren, Ryan and his wife Zoila, Alyssa and her husband Eduardo, Danielle and her wife Mandi, and Paige and her partner Josh; great grandson, Charlie Fournier; brother-in-law Robert Sfreddo; and sisters-in-law, Brenda Simons, and Collette Sfreddo. Affectionately having called him “Unc” or “Mon Oncle”, he is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Jeannette Campbell and her husband Bob; niece, Gail Campbell; and brother-in-law, Thomas Simons; as well as his dear dog Fritz.
A special acknowledgement to Richard’s best friend, Ray Montagna. Thank you for being there for him, especially in his final years. He was blessed to have a friend like you.
His family would also like to thank Ashraf Moustafa and the team at Able Care Pharmacy for many years of personal service, and the nurses and staff at Evergreen Healthcare Center and Johnson Memorial Hospital for the support they gave Richard and his family.
His Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Edward Church, 55 High St., Stafford Springs, CT. Burial at St. Edward Cemetery, Stafford Springs, CT will be private.
