Richard A. Sherman's Obituary
Richard Arthur Sherman, 76, of Mansfield Center, CT, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. He was born in Cleveland, OH, son of the late Arthur F. and Beulah E. “Bunny” (Dean) Sherman. Richard loved his childhood years in Otis, MA, and his last 23 years in Mansfield Center, CT. He attended Rutgers University in New Jersey, and then joined the United States Navy and served on the USS Fulton, a nuclear submarine based in New London, CT. Richard worked with persons with disabilities and had a special love for the ocean and dogs, especially Gypsy, Sarah, and Apache, and fostering occasional rescue dogs. He loved social interaction and was a friend of Bill W. AA for over 30 years, where he enjoyed camaraderie and personal growth. Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 23 years, Rachel (Pride) Sherman of Mansfield Center, CT; three siblings, Arthur Michael “Mike” Sherman and his wife Karen of Texas, Robert Dean Sherman and his wife Trudi of Pennsylvania; and Victoria “Vickie” Nastus of New Jersey; and special friend, John “Chip” Kelley, III. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Mary. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at 11:30 A.M. at New Mansfield Center Cemetery, Mansfield Center, CT.
