Rita Cheney's Obituary
Rita M. Cheney, 83, formerly of Willington, CT, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2009 at Newington Health Care Center. She was born in Burlington, VT, daughter of the late Frank and Lillian (Furkey) Sholan. Rita was a nurse in the U.S. Army during World War II, and retired from the University of Connecticut as a phone operator. A loving mother and grandmother, she will be dearly missed by her son, Alfred Cheney; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters, Jeanette Ramos and Francis Sholan; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters; and her daughter-in-law, Pearl Cheney. A calling hour will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009 from 9:15-10:15 A.M. at Introvigne Funeral Home, Inc., 51 East Main St., Stafford Springs, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. at St. Philip the Apostle Church, Pompey Hollow Rd., Ashford, CT. Burial will follow in Willington Hill Cemetery, Willington, CT. Memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd., Newington, CT 06111.
