Robert G. Korner's Obituary
Robert G. Korner, 75, of Ashford, CT, husband of Deanna (Carpenter) Korner, passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at Johnson Memorial Medical Center, Stafford Springs, CT. He was born November 29, 1940 in Willimantic, CT and lived in Coventry, CT. He was the son of Harold and Helen (Mech) Korner. His survivors include his wife of 52 years, Deanna; his daughter, Kristine Korner (Justin Morales) of East Hartford CT; his son, John Korner of Ashford, CT; and his sister, Catherine Kasacek of Mansfield, CT. Bob was predeceased by his parents and his sister Marsha (Korner) Legler. He leaves his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Edward Legler of Moosup, CT, Arthur and Marilyn (Carpenter) Hoza of Somers, CT, and Kenneth and Donna Carpenter of Salem, CT. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bob attended Windham High School, graduating in 1958. He worked at the Mansfield Training School as the plant facilities engineer for 27 years, leaving in 1990 when the Training School closed. He retired in 1996 from the Department of Corrections after working for 33 years in Connecticut State Service. Bob was a member of the East Coast Mini Sprint Association, building and driving his race car and enjoying the friendship of all his fellow drivers. He was a fan of the UCONN women’s basketball team, watching NASCAR racing and cheering on his favorite driver, Joey Logano. The family wishes to thank the kind and caring professionalism of Dr. Jay Thumar, Oncologist of the Yale Cancer Center; Dr. Constantinos Constantinou, Thoracic Surgeon of St. Francis Hospital; Dr. Leopold, Radiation/Oncology of Community Care Center, Manchester, CT; Dr. Hauser, Radiation/Oncology of the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center, Hartford, CT; Dr. Kellerman of Johnson Memorial Medical Center; the Hospice staff and the Visiting Nurse and Health Services of Vernon, CT; and all the health care personnel at Johnson Memorial Medical Center and Evergreen Health Care Center. A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015 at 11 A.M. at Woodward Cemetery, Route 44, Ashford, CT. Following Bob’s wishes there will be no calling hours.
