Robert J. Maxim's Obituary
Robert “Bob” J. Maxim, 76, of Knoxville, TN, passed away on Monday February 12, 2024. He was born in Cooperstown, NY, son of the late Raymond and Mildred (Conkey) Maxim. Bob was predeceased by a brother, Larry Maxim, FL and a sister, Sharon (Maxim) Howard, FL. He is survived by his two children, Trieste (Maxim) Philbrook, Concord, NH, Tiffany (Maxim) Gould and her husband Clyde of Stafford, CT; two siblings, Raymond E. Maxim, Utica, NY, Linda (Maxim) Coomey, FL; three grandchildren, Ava, Reese, and Blake and several loving nephews, nieces and cousins. Bob served our country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. After being injured and permanently disabled, he was awarded several medals and honorably discharged. Before moving to Stafford Springs, CT, for a few years after his military service while living in Charleston, SC, Bob worked with fellow injured service members sharing his experience with a prosthetic leg to help them acclimate to life using their own new prosthesis. After moving to Stafford Springs, CT, he purchased a home and worked in a nearby town as a Machinist, until he took an early retirement. Over the years Bob enjoyed time with family including hunting, fishing, and camping with his nephews, Michael & Mark Zimmerman. He was very knowledgeable in mechanics, woodworking, and could fix or build just about anything. Bob experienced so much happiness from riding ATV’s, snowmobiles, Jeeps, boats, and fast cars, but especially motorcycles. While still living in Connecticut, he loved spending time with his daughters fishing, boating, camping, watching a good action movie, playing board/card games and trying to teach them how to play cribbage. Bob was a wanderlust by nature and traveled all over the US and Canada on his Harley Davidson for many years, visiting motorcycle rallies in Sturgis, SD, Laconia, NH, and often camping out in the wilderness along the way including places such as Yellowstone National Park. Other than Charleston, SC, Stafford Springs, CT, and Vernon, CT, he also lived in Utica, NY, various places in Florida, and settled for the final years of his life in Knoxville, TN. The family will hold a celebration of life for Bob to be scheduled at a later date. Burial will be held privately. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675. To leave condolences online for the family, please visit: www.introvignefuneralhome.com
